Though the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Taiwan share a common cultural heritage, their political separation since the late nineteenth century has led to divergent paths of development, evident in their distinct civil legal systems. This article xamines the historical development of these civil legal systems, compares their similarities and differences, and evaluates
the possibilities for future cooperation between PRC and Taiwanese legal systems.
